Tile uses Bluetooth Low Energy 4.0 (BLE) technology to help you locate your items. While Bluetooth technology is a wireless technology, there are significant differences between Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS technology.

If any other Tile user's phone/tablet is within Bluetooth range, you will receive an update with the location of your Tile. When this happens, you will see a pin on the map view for your Tile. This essentially makes the range limitless once there are enough Tile users in your area.
Tile uses Bluetooth to communicate with the companion app on your smart phone or tablet. The Tile app "discovers" a Tile and establishes a connection to it using the Bluetooth signal. Once a Bluetooth connection is made between your Tile and mobile device, Tile then uses the location services of your mobile device to communicate up-to-date location information to the app.
Your Tile can be discovered by your smartphone or tablet within Bluetooth range. To always have the best connection and most up-to-date location information when your Tile and device are within range of each other:
If any of these 3 things are not true, your Tile, app, and device are not communicating with each other.

Can’t hear your Tile?
If you’re ever having trouble finding Tile by sound alone, there’s a proximity sensor that visually shows you if you’re getting closer or farther away from your Tile! To get started, tap on the Tile icon in your app to turn your green "in range" circle into a proximity sensor.
If the ring around the Tile icon is entirely green, you should be close enough to hear it by sound!
Help someone out without even lifting a finger!
It’s no secret how satisfying it is to help someone out. And Tile makes helping others effortless!
When you’re running the Tile app on your device, your app isn’t just looking for your Tiles, it’s looking for everyones'! When you pass within range of a Tile, your app will automatically update the location of that Tile on whichever account it’s registered to.
The Tile community is always working; if you want to be notified when someone updates the location of your Tile, simply tap “Notify When Found” in the app.
Utilizing the Tile community is safe and entirely anonymous.
You won’t be able to see where other people’s Tiles are, and they won’t be able to see yours either!
Location updates are automatic and anonymous, so it’s completely secure.
You could also receive an anonymous thank you message from the owner of the Tile thanking you for helping them find their lost Tile.
Anyone can help -- even if they don’t have a Tile!
You don’t need to have a Tile to be a part of the Tile community! So ask your friends and family to download and run our free app. It’s free, and with every person added, you get 100 more feet of finding power!
You can make your search party even bigger!
You can share each of your Tiles with one other email address. Sharing a Tile means you and someone you trust can both update the Tile’s location, ring the Tile, look for its last known location on the map, and ask to be notified when the Tile is found!
There are two ways to share your Tile!

**Do keep in mind, however, that if both of you are in Bluetooth range, the Tile will automatically connect to the device that’s closest to it!

Disabling Find Your Phone with Tile (iOS Only)
You have the option to disable the feature of ringing your phone from your Tile(s).
Your Tile makes a "heartbeat" melody when it can't establish a connection with your device to ring it.
When you double-press the button on your Tile to make your phone ring, are you hearing a slow beeping sound and your phone is staying silent? Don't worry! This is your Tile letting you know that it's searching for a connection, but it can't seem to find your device.
Your Tile will beep 5 times like a "heartbeat" when you double-press the button on your Tile if:
To prevent Tile from sounding its "heartbeat", always ensure:
Now, try double-pressing the button on your Tile to test if it has established a connection. Your Tile should now ring your phone successfully, confirming that it has established a connection with your device.
**Please note that if your Android device is in Do Not Disturb - Total Silence mode, the Tile app will not be able to make your phone ring. A notification will still appear in the phone's lock screen that Tile is ringing your phone, but there will be no sound with the alert.
To be able to keep your Android device on Do Not Disturb, but still be able to ring it using your Tile, switch your Do Not Disturb mode to Alarms Only or Priority Only.
Still Having Trouble Finding Your Phone?
If you're still having trouble finding your phone with your Tile, just log into your Tile app on any device or the website, web.thetileapp.com, to see your phone’s last location, to make it ring, or to send a lock-screen message to those who might find it.

Your Tile is guaranteed to last one full year. After that year, you can opt-in to our reTile program! This allows you to replace all the Tiles you already have in your account for a discounted price!
Why is reTile the best option?
Eligibility & How it works:
You can now easily change each of your individual Tile's ringtone to suit your every need. The process is super simple and easy to complete!
1. Tap on the Tile you would like to change the ringtone on (Tile Mate, Tile Slim, and Tile Pro Series only)
2. Tap on the 'Options' tab
3. Next, select the 'Details' section
4. Then, select the "Ringtones" section
You will now see the Customize Ringtone screen, where you can preview all available ringtones and save your favorite one to your Tile!
Upon saving your ringtone, your Tile will begin downloading the ringtone which may up to 20 seconds. If your Tile requires a new firmware update it will begin to do so along with the ringtone and this process may take up to 2 minutes. You will also be able to test the ringtone after the update!
Sometimes things might not go as planned and you end up losing connection to your Tile during these updates. If that's the case you'll most likely see the screen below. Please let your Tile fully connect (solid green circle) and try again, you should be able to successfully update your ringtone!
